About Svømmedyktig.no

The website svømmedyktig.no is a resource for people who teach swimming and life saving in the Norwegian school system and people responsible for organising good, safe swimming education.

On svømmedyktig.no you will find activities that support the various competence goals set for Years 2,  4, 7 and 10, with a particular focus on the compulsory proficiency tests intended to ensure that all pupils are proficient swimmers by the end of Year 4.

In order for pupils to progress from water familiarisation to becoming a proficient swimmer, it is natural to follow an ordered methodology. The activities on svømmedyktig.no therefore progress from the simplest to the most complex.

In addition to activities, you will also find information about the curriculum, requirements and recommendations, safety and organisation, practical examples, links to lesson plans, and other useful information.

Our starting point was that the content on the website should be determined by the needs of the target group. We have therefore spoken to a number of people who know about swimming and life-saving education. Amateur and professional swimming instructors, head teachers and school owners have communicated their needs and wishes. The content on the website has been compiled and quality assured by a working group of resource people who work in the field.

The svømmedyktig.no portal is part of the Norwegian government's commitment to better swimming education in schools. The Norwegian National Centre for Food, Health and Physical Activity was mandated to set up and run the website by the Ministry of Education and Research, via the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training.
